Spring 2025

Linda’s recovery from her bicycle accident in March has been slow, but steady. Going to Physical Therapy twice a week and doing exercises at home is helping her to gain more movement and strength in her right arm; apparently frozen shoulder can take a l-o-n-g time to get over.

Jim continued working on building out the detached garage; running the electrical for the new space was his next project.

This framed tile was in a useless place in Acey. It fit perfectly to top the corner of the bathroom where refrigerant lines for the A/C needed to run; they couldn’t go in the wall.

We had insulation installed; the guys got it all done in just a few hours!

Drywall was delivered May 14

The was drywall up and finished in just a few days!

Jim got it primed and painted

Acey’s space is to the left; finished space to the right –  workshop, bathroom & storage downstairs, more storage and office upstairs

We had a creeping visitor

We finally got around to considering landscaping. Jim got the front flower beds ready.

And we got some plants!

There seems to be a lot of echo in the great room; so we hung a rug up to see if that will help – it’s a bit of an improvement – maybe we need a bigger one?

Jim was looking out the front window one afternoon and said, “there’s cows in front yard!” Linda was on the couch and replied  “yeah, right!” Well, sure enough – there WERE cows – three of them!

Acey is parked out front while the garage is being finished out.

And they came by again the next day!

Linda’s parents built MANY homes over their years – and gave us stuff they didn’t need after they built their last house. Jim found this outdoor outlet cover; “they don’t make them like this anymore”; the flaps stay up! Look at the price tag – another “old school” thing of the past!  He used it to put an outlet on front of the detached garage.

Before Acey went back to the detached garage, Jim gave her a bath and pressure washed the roof. The A/C covers need to be re-painted again soon. Who thought black was a good color for them?!

While she was parked out front, it looks like a bullet went into the roof! This will require further investigation…

Linda put out the hummingbird feeders a couple of weeks ago – and when she went to get a photo of a hummingbird, there was a deer in the back yard too!

At our last home, we never had more than one hummingbird on this feeder!

In June, we enjoyed having the Flamings here for a visit – we always know how old Julie is because Jim’s sister Gwen was pregnant with her when she came to our wedding! Julie and Royce and their 2 precious girls – Gwyneth and Violet – live in Thailand, so we don’t see them very often – we will have to go for a visit! Neither of us have been to the Asia… We visited a nearby park in Kingston Springs. There was a nice playground.

Chris and Royce played Frisbee golf, and we walked around the paved walkway.

The girls enjoyed playing in the water park!

We were invited to a friend’s farm in Santa Fe – they have Tennessee Fainting Goats! Tami took us down to see the flock and feed them raisins!

We all tried picking up the goats; Violet really had a talent as a goat wrangler!

Back at the house, there were hens to feed! Tammi also fed her human visitors – what a fun day at the farm!

We enjoyed having the Flamings here and glad Chris could take time off work to join them during their visit. Many rounds of Uno were played!

More work in the detached garage – Jim installed the vanity in the bathroom.

… and laid ceramic tile on the floor

This shower curtain from Amazon was a nice touch!

This 3-section sink is a great addition, especially for the future brewery.

He used the same flooring we put in the house to finish the floor of his upstairs office.

We got cabinets from Home Depot for the workshop – upper cabinets to come later

…and he built a sturdy workbench!

The turkeys visit almost every day!

With the Fourth of July right around the corner, our church had its annual celebration – Patriotic music with a full orchestra – it was wonderful and can be enjoyed on YouTube here!

Jim got our flagpole up in time for the Fourth! It has a solar light to shine on the flag at night!

We put some stickers on the great room windows to help prevent bird strikes – there are 5 on each window.

From the outside, the windows reflect the back yard, so it would appear the birds think they can fly on…

Chris often dog sits – here he is with Stasy.

Acey needed to get out on the road, so we took a quick trip to Baton Rouge. We had a brief visit with Chuck.

Turned out he was leaving for The Open the next day; so we met him for breakfast before he went to the airport!

On July 18 we flew to Boston – to go on an epic cruise – a 35-day “Voyage of the Vikings” on Holland America’s Zuiderdam! Here’s a map of the ship’s route. Stay tuned for the next blog – it’s going to be a minute… we took a lot of photos and, well, 35 days of adventures!

  1. What fun! Good to see all the hone improvements going on. We liked seeing the photos from the Flaming’s visit, too. Thanks for posting.

  2. Tremendous progress on your property! Wow!
You certainly aren’t lacking for interest in your yard; a veritable zoo 🙂

  3. OMG! Where would the bullet have come from!?! That’s crazy!
Thank you for sharing & letting us see the improvements after we left.

  4. Wonderful summary!
I could tell the difference between the farm and your back yard… only that the farm had more “domesticated” animals!!!

  5. The bullet is funny, glad no one was hurt. I love seeing the wildlife making themselves home. And, overall great progress.
